Watch out for the new Digipass scam

The Digipbad has become a very practical tool, whether to make a remote banking operation or placing orders on certain sites. But the medal has its flip side

The FPS Economy warns against a new scam, which uses this small seemingly harmless box to collect your data, and divert money. The modus operandi is simple. The person receives an email or an SMS informing him that he has paid a bill twice.

Confirm? No !

A link is attached. Just click on it to get to the site that will get a refund.

Once the operation is complete, a scammer calls you to ask to confirm the refund, using your credit card reader. In fact, he tries to steal your bank details, and make payments from your account, with your full consent.

The FPS Economy recalls: if you really paid twice a bill the merchant just needs your account number – which he usually has – to make the refund to which you are entitled. A Digipbad is only used to pay money, not to receive it. In short, never use it for this purpose, and do not communicate more code signature it displays once your PIN returned.

If, despite everything, you have been a victim of this scam, notify your bank soon as possible, file a complaint with the police and report the fraud on pointdecontact.belgique.be.
