Porsche unveils the new edition of its Macan SUV in world premiere during a presentation in Shanghai, China. The new version boasts a mid-range refresh, exterior design changes, comfort levels and, unsurprisingly, driving.
The exterior of the new Macan gets LED headlights, as well as a horizontal band containing the taillights, in the style of the Cayenne. In general, the SUV displays a more sporty and contemporary look.
Inside, buyers will be able to opt for the same GT sport steering wheel found in the 911. Another option, the Sports Chrono package includes among others Fashion and Sport Response buttons integrated in the steering wheel. Porsche has also improved the offer for comfort options; there is now a heated windshield and a system to improve the quality of air in the cabin through the use of an ionizer.
Porsche makes its Macan easier to customize, thanks to the offer of four new colors in combination with various interior choices.
The Macan will benefit from improvements in safety and driver badistance systems; the Traffic Jam Assist module with adaptive cruise control is now included, for example. The system operates at speeds of up to 60 km / h and partially handles acceleration and braking, as well as helping to steer the vehicle through congestion and heavy traffic.
The new Porsche Communication Management System ( PCM), also present in the new Maca, keeps you connected at all times and includes many digital features. Of course we are entitled to the typical Porsche center console, but we now find an enlarged screen (11 inches instead of 7) in the newly redesigned dashboard. As in Panamera and Cayenne, the infotainment system interface can be customized. The ventilation slots have also been redesigned and now lie below the center screen.
Also worth noting is the presence of Porsche's Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (Porsche Traction Management (PTM)) and new tires with increased performance found on the 21 and 22-inch wheels, also new for this year
China, a crucial market
The Macan version unveiled in Shanghai will be marketed exclusively in China, a very important market for Porsche's compact SUV. Moreover, of the 350,000 units of the model that have been sold since its introduction in 2014, more than 100,000 have been sold in China. Porsche promises more details on other versions and markets in the coming months.
