Beloved “Police Academy” star Michael Winslow in danger of elimination

When Police academy star Michael Winslow resurfaced on America’s Got Talent earlier this season, he was probably the most famous person to ever try for the show. Host Terry Crews enthusiastically called him a “legend,” Howie Mandel called him a “trailblazer” and Simon Cowell said he was “delighted” to see the self-proclaimed 62-year-old “voicetramentalist” return on the scene.

It looked like the icon who played Officer Larvell Jones in the Seven Cops Academy films, had roles in 80s box office hits like Gremlins and Space balls, and even presented at the 1986 Oscars would be a shoo-in for the semi-finals, if not the final. In fact, some viewers even tweeted that it wasn’t quite fair for a star with Michael’s illustrious CV to compete with the Season 16 rookies.

But live from Wednesday EIGHT show the quarterfinal results, Winslow discovered that his resume was not such an advantage after all – for he was in danger of returning home.

During the hour-long episode, the Rialcris trio, quick-change artist Lea Kyle, child dancers ChapKidz, pop diva Brooke Simpson and martial arts troupe World Taekwondo Demonstration Team all qualified for the semi-finals via the US vote, while magician Klek Entos, novelty actor Keith Apicary, rock singer Anica and the Curtis Family group C-Notes returned home. This left three artists in the middle group in Purgatory, awaiting their fate. Those acts were generic rock singer Storm Large, Unicircle Flow unicycle stuntman and, surprisingly, Michael Winslow.

To be fair, these three artists deserved to be on the chopping block this week, despite their obvious talent. Unicircle Flow had some glaring technical errors on Tuesday’s live performance night; Storm took too many risks changing her looks and sound, thus disappointing her biggest supporter, Simon; and Michael just got a night’s rest, with a slow routine that came to nothing and failed to generate a lot of belly laughs.

“I’ll be honest with you: I think there’s a pattern tonight that might be nervous. I don’t know why, but no one seems to do better than them [first] audition, ”Simon lamented Tuesday, after watching Michael’s disappointing quarterfinal routine.

So Wednesday was America’s instant vote – and while it looked like Winslow was tied with Unicircle Flow at the start (which, again, was a surprise), he eventually managed to s ‘get out. He reacted to the good news by making rapid heartbeat noises, and the heart of Winslow’s biggest fan on the panel, fellow comedian Howie, also seemed to be racing, as Howie told his former colleague. : “I’m so proud of you, Michael. I think you’ve come to the competition as an accomplished superstar before, and you’ve shown everyone how important this step is. And I would tell you, you do and you have nothing to fear. You deserve to be here. I know it’s hard to get back on stage when you’ve been gone for a long time.

The judges ended up saving Unicircle Flow, so it was Storm’s journey that ended this week. (Simon didn’t even vote for the poor woman!) by Winslow trip takes much longer? We will know when the semi-finals start next week.
