Ben Affleck reveals he played Batman for his kids: ‘I wanted to do something my son would love’
When Ben Affleck was announced as the new Batman in 2013, many people scratched their heads as to why he would take on such a role, although he recently revealed why he did it: for his children.
The actor was in the midst of a career rebirth as an actor and filmmaker, earning a Best Picture victory for Argo a year earlier.
During an in-depth conversation with The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, Affleck revealed he wanted something his kids could enjoy.

“I made Batman because I wanted to do it for my kids. I wanted to do something my son would dig. I mean, my kids haven’t seen Argo, ”Affleck said.
‘Zack [Snyder] wanted to do a version of the Frank Miller Dark Knight graphic novel series, which is a very good version of it, ”Affleck continued.
Affleck first donned the cape and hood in 2016 Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where he faced off against Henry Cavill’s Superman, who was first seen in 2013’s Man of Steel, both helmed by Zack. Snyder.

He also returned in a cameo as Batman in 2016’s Suicide Squad, which, like Batman v Superman, has been wildly criticized by critics, though both are posting decent box office numbers.
It all culminated with Justice League, which Snyder left during production due to a family tragedy, with Joss Whedon at the helm.
The result – a mishmash of Snyder and Whedon images – was a critical and business failure, with the DCEU’s worst box office odds and numbers.

“ Unfortunately, there are a lot of reasons why things turn out the way they do in movies, and just because your face is on the poster doesn’t mean you dictate all of these things – and even if you were, that they would be fine, ”Affleck said.
Still, the ultimate reason Affleck took on the role – for his children – ended up making the role interesting.
“ I wore the costume to my son’s birthday party, which was worth every moment of suffering on Justice League, ” Affleck said candidly.

While Warner Bros. moving on with a new Batman, played by Robert Pattinson, Affleck will return as The Dark Knight in at least two more projects.
It has been confirmed that he will return as Bruce Wayne / Batman in The Flash, which is slated for release in November 2022.
He will also be returning in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which was reconfigured into a four-hour miniseries, debuting on HBO Max in March.
