Housing and Urban Development secretary Ben Carson has told confidants he wants to start a think tank after President Trump leaves next month.

The secretary has not publicly acknowledged Joe Biden’s election victory, but is preparing for a future outside the federal government.

- It is unclear how such a group would be funded or unite with an entity Trump would launch into exile. The closest source to defining policy guidelines has been to say that it would include “increasing self-reliance” and “promoting religious freedom”.
Another goal: Carson wants to “heal the wounds of the division” said the source.
- This would indeed be a tall order, as Trump’s tireless efforts to create and exacerbate such injuries show no signs of abating.
- Just this week the president retweeted a missive saying that two Republican officials in Georgia who acknowledged Biden’s victory will soon go to jail.
Be smart: While Carson may plan for his future or show his loyalty to Trump in the process, he can’t forget that the president blasted Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell this week for publicly saying that Biden – not him – would be invested in the presidency next month.
