Ben & Jerry's has an important message for your weekend 420

This year, April 20, an unofficial holiday for weeds, falls on a weekend, which is an excuse for celebrations, careful planning and, presumably, Ben & Jerry's ice cream. But while several states now recognize the legal use of marijuana, across the country, a person is arrested for this consumption on average every 48 seconds, according to the FBI. And the millions of people affected by the war on drugs are mostly people of color.

So, Ben & Jerry's, the world-famous socially conscious ice cream company, has released a video on the weekend to highlight this huge gap. The company's main Twitter account said, "It's hard to celebrate the 4/20 when so many people of color are still stopped for pot, we need to do better."

A handful of American cities have started clearing criminal records of people convicted of marijuana, even in states like Maryland, where the recreational pot is not yet legal. But there is still a long way to go and, hopefully, good business campaigns can help shorten the path a little.
