Ben Shapiro criticizes Dems and media for spreading ‘strange conspiracy theory’ that Trump is undermining USPS

The accusation that President Trump is trying to cripple the U.S. Postal Service to suppress postal voting and interfere with the upcoming election is a “nothing-burger” propagated by Democrats and the mainstream media, Ben Shapiro said on Monday.

“Democrats have a theory, and their theory is that the reason Republicans don’t want to fund the US Postal Service to the tune of $ 50 billion is because they are trying to undermine the election,” “The Ben Shapiro Show, ”the host told listeners.

USPS WARNS 46 STATES IT CANNOT GUARANTEE BALLOTS WILL ARRIVE IN TIME FOR ELECTION

“It’s just not true,” Shapiro continued. “The US Postal Service has the funding, the cash, to get through 2020. So whatever kind of funding you provide them right now, it won’t impact the election.”

Shapiro was responding to what he called a “strange conspiracy theory” among Democrats and Liberals who claim the recent postal service cut is an intentional White House move to undermine Americans’ ability to vote by mail during the November elections.

Last week, the US Postal Service sent letters warning 46 states and the District of Columbia that it cannot guarantee that all mailed ballots will arrive in time to be counted by election officials.

But, suspicion turned to outrage after Trump admitted in an interview with Maria Bartiromo of Fox Business Network that he was reluctant to give additional funding to the Postal Service because it would make postal voting – a process to which he s categorically opposes – easier.

“This scandal is … a complete nothing-burger,” Shapiro insisted before conceding “it doesn’t help when President Trump says stupid shit … lending credibility to a theory that literally does no evidence to support it. “

The Conservative commentator added: “The real problem for the post office is that their turnaround time is too long for these national regulations as to when you can send your postal or postal ballots.”

However, this fact “does not matter,” Shapiro continued. “The media decided that President Trump was deliberately trying to hit the US Postal Service to prevent people from voting … and it earned a lot of currency on the left.”
