Things have changed in the relationship between Ben Simmons and the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Golden State Warriors, like it or not, are now involved.
Jason Dumas from KRON4 reported Thursday that the triple All Star is no longer on good terms with the Sixers – leaving that to his agent, Rich Paul – and that he is “open” to going to Golden State.
As the tweet notes, Simmons’ preferences only go as far as he has no leverage in this situation. But another bigger issue is that the Warriors have already reportedly rejected a decision for the 25-year-old point just recently.
In late July, the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompeo reported that the Sixers were asking for Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman, the No.7 and 14 picks in the 2021 NBA Draft, and two future first-round players in exchange for Simmons. Golden State “quickly” rejected the offer, according to Pompeo, as have many other teams who have been asked for wacky offers in exchange for the Australian native.
In addition to the high asking price being an issue, Warriors owner Joe Lacob had previously established that the Dubs were “highly unlikely” to engage in a successful business this offseason.
Even if you dismiss this trade offer and Lacob’s comments as a posture for a better deal, then the question becomes why the hell the Warriors would want Simmons. Of course, experts have suggested he could style his game after Draymond Green given his vision of the pitch and defensive skills – and what better way to learn how to do that than with Green as a teammate – but the Dubs would add a non-dominating ball. shooter who’s had the yaps so bad the last playoffs that he infamously gave an open dunk with his team down two in the dying minutes of Game 7.
If Philly’s wild demands weren’t enough to dismiss the idea of bringing him to Golden State, then maybe his weak spots on the pitch should be.
