CINCINNATI – Bengals Wide Receiver A.J. Green has stepped out of her protective boot and is making considerable progress in her recovery from pre-season ankle surgery.

Green said he had run for about 10 minutes Tuesday and that he had been training with his Bengals coach, Joey Boese, on Wednesday. Green said that although his range of motion is still limited, he feels good after the workouts.

"Everything is going in the right direction," Green said in his first public comments since the tearing of the ankle ligaments during the first practice camp training and operation.

Although neither he nor the Bengals coach, Zac Taylor, have a timetable for his return, the latest developments are a positive sign that Green could be back sooner than expected. Green said that he feels ahead of his rehab process.

Green, who is in the final year of his contract with the Bengals, said "that things are going on" but left the negotiations to his agent. The situation however emphasizes the importance of being in perfect health on his return.

He missed seven games last season with an injury to the toe.

"It's the last year of my contract," Green said. "You never know, I have to make sure I'm 100%, that my body is good for playing at a high level."
