Genshin Impact ‘s Bennett is awesome. But when people talk about him, it mostly has to do with his kit. While most of the healers in the game are Cryo or Hydro units, this is a Pyro. Not to mention the effect of the Elemental Blast both restores health and enhances a character’s attack. It is an easy to use sword bearer. Even her normal elemental skill deals helpful Pyro damage. But what people might not realize either is how much of a fun and lovable underdog he is.
Bennett is an orphan who has always had a passion for adventure. Even though, well, the world isn’t nice to him or the people who explore with him. His luck is the worst, but he never lets it go. Members of his team can abandon him. It can be struck by lightning. But that never discourages him. And that never stops him from caring about the people around him and trying to help them. Misfortunes shaped him, but never discouraged him. As a result, you get this incredibly optimistic ally, passionate about the world, looking for new treasures and discovering new places. It’s refreshing, like having a classic RPG protagonist as your virtual best friend.
There is nothing more fitting than inadvertently gaining achievement for being struck by lightning while trying to get a dramatic image of Benny using his elemental skill.
Bennett has some of the best idle and vocal lines in Genshin impact. It’s because, well, he’s well aware of his bad luck and some of them are playing with the idea that fate has placed a target on his back. I mean, he smothered his son with his own sandwich in the middle of offering you some! But even though many of them point out how likely he is to… uh, be struck by lightning or fall into a trap, there is that lifelong hope.
Bennett is surrounded by people who love him, and I’m not just talking about players who realize how useful he is. We see that he has dads, adventurers in the guild who have taken him under their wing and love him. We know that Katheryne always keeps track of her team, even if she only has one member. He refers to the fact that he is a fan of Barbara and his story mentions how well she takes care of him when he comes back from treks drunk. It’s heartwarming to know that even though people know he’s a disaster magnet, they love him nonetheless.
Which makes it all the more ironic that, as perfectly suited as Genshin Impact ‘s Bennett is for being a protagonist, he is not. I like to think that this is another example of miHoYo showing how bad his luck is. Here we have the perfect type of hero, someone who fits the mold perfectly, and he’s put aside because he’s in a game with so many other notable characters. It is no longer even present in campaign or event quests from version 1.2!
Genshin Impact ‘s Bennett is a great guy. It has an interesting storyline that plays with all of the concepts we’d expect from our typical RPG heroes. It’s a practical character that fits perfectly into any party. I also love that miHoYo created someone who you can really relate to and who you can really root for. Especially since the poor guy is not yet in the limelight. And, given that he’s a four-star always available, everyone has the option of adding this great ally to their roster.
Genshin impact is available for PlayStation 4, PC, Android and Apple iOS devices. The Albedo banner, which also features Bennett, Fischl and Sucrose, will be available until January 12, 2021. The Ganyu banner will appear thereafter.
