Berkshire Hathaway bought shares of Amazon. But Warren Buffett is not behind the shopping.
"One of the fellows in the office who manages the money … bought an Amazon so that it appears in the 13F" later this month, Buffett told CNBC on Thursday, on the eve of the launch of Berkshire's annual shareholders meeting in Omaha. Buffett was referring to Todd Combs or Ted Weschler, who each manage a portfolio of more than $ 13 billion in shares for Berkshire.
Buffett has long been a fan of Amazon and its president Jeff Bezos, praising the company's dominance and the commercial prowess of its founder. But while Buffett sang the company's praises, he never bought Amazon shares. Thus, the title that Berkshire bought in shares would probably be of interest to the markets.
"Yes, I 've been a fan and I' ve been foolish not to buy" Amazon shares, Buffett said. "But I want you to know that there is no personality change."
