CHARLESTON, S.C. – Sen. Bernie Sanders returned this week to South Carolina, a state that rejected him in his bid for the 2016 presidency, and again attempted to make contact with black voters – a crucial block of the first Democratic primary of this state in the South.
An indication of the task ahead of Mr Sanders, who lost his campaign two years ago in areas where the Democratic base was largely composed of non-white voters: the crowd at a pair most of its demonstrations in predominantly black neighborhoods were white.
