Aside from the TCL 6 series above, this is the best TV for the money. The TCL has a better picture and a better smart TV system, so it’s a higher quality TV overall, but it’s also a few hundred dollars more expensive. If you like the Sony brand, the X900H is a great choice, with image quality comparable to the TCL 6-Series and a price tag that’s not this much more expensive. And its connection sequence is actually better than TCL’s. Roku is our preferred platform for viewing content with Netflix live TV streaming apps, and it’s an even better experience when integrated into the TV. This TCL Series 4 Ultra HD TV cannot beat any of the above models in terms of picture quality – its 4K resolution and HDR compatibility do nothing to improve the picture – but it’s perfectly fine for most people, especially on this. price.

TCL’s 8-series also includes mini LEDs and the result is high contrast, brightness and dynamic range that outperform the cheaper 6-series in my side-by-side comparison. The overall picture quality doesn’t quite hit OLED levels, but it’s pretty close and costs a lot less, especially in the 75-inch size.

Other things to know about buying a new 4K TV
I’m pretty sure you’d be happy with any of the above TVs, but a new set can be a big investment so maybe you’re looking for a bit more info. Here is a quick and dirty list.
- In my opinion, the bigger the better. Big TVs are cheaper than ever, and it’s better to spend your money on big screens rather than a slight improvement in picture quality.
- If you don’t like the built-in smart TV system, you can always add a media player. They’re inexpensive and easy to use, and get updates more frequently than most smart TVs. Check out our selection of the best media streamers.
