Best Christmas Movies & TV Shows to Watch on Netflix

With many of us locked in our homes and separated from our friends and family, it can be a very dark time. Lucky for us, there is a lot of holiday magic to be discovered this Christmas. Netflix has released a ton of delicious original Christmas movies and series. So if you haven’t yet watched the long-awaited conclusion to The Christmas Prince trilogy, A Royal Baby, here is your chance.

Netflix Original Movies

Vacation in the wild

Kristin Davis plays a mother who plans a romantic trip to Africa with her husband after their son leaves for college. Unfortunately for her, her husband opts for a divorce instead. Either way, Davis decides to go to Africa anyway, probably for Eat Pray Love, his impending divorce goes away. And given that this is a holiday movie, the odds seem astronomically high that she will fall in love with Rob Lowe, who plays his pilot on his leg in Zambia. Netflix also assures us that there are baby elephants.

Let the snow

Snowstorm on Christmas Eve? Check. High school students? Check. An important party to attend and a stolen barrel? Check. If it’s not Christmas Superbad Meets All John Hughes Movies, I’ll be very disappointed. I hope Kiernan Shipka plays some sort of blonde Molly Ringwald.

Klaus

This animated original comes from Despicable Me co-creator Sergio Pablos, and features a fantastic cast of voice actors including Jason Schwartzman, Rashida Jones, and JK Simmons. He’s also a postal worker, but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt that he’s stuffed with Christmas magic.

The knight before Christmas

Vanessa Hudgens befriends a medieval knight who finds himself in present-day Ohio. I guess this will be a Kate & Leopold version of Christmas, which I totally agree with. Also, Emmanuelle Chriqui’s co-stars and the girl in me are very excited to see if she is still as beautiful as she was in Snow Day.

Vacation rush

Widowed radio DJ with four children loses his job just before Christmas, apparently as they live in a world filled with heartless human monsters. Chances are high, this will be the biggest tearjerker on the list.

A Christmas prince: the royal baby

If you haven’t seen A Christmas Prince or the sequel A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding, stop what you’re doing and go immediately to watch them. The films focus on Amber, a journalist who openly lies to the foreign rulers of the fictional country Aldovia (which I’m sure would be illegal? But Netflix doesn’t seem too concerned with how the laws work in Aldovia) and ends up marry their prince. In the second film, they get married. This time they are going to have a baby. Sorry for the spoilers.

Princess Switch

Vanessa Hudgens plays not one but two characters – and yes, one of them is a princess. Drawing inspiration from Mark Twain’s The Prince and the Pauper, The Princess Switch sees talented baker Stacy take the place of Lady Margaret Delacourt, Duchess of Montenaro, who desperately needs to spend time out of the spotlight. But things get complicated (along with the sweet, lovely things and all that good stuff), when she finds out that a normal life could be a lifelong dream. The Great British Pastry Fair: The Holidays

The most polished, beautiful and deliciously British show on the competitive food scene brings us another holiday season. It’s hard to say what turns me on the most, but it will probably be Noel Fielding’s stunning outfits. (The rainbow sweater in the promo image is everything.) Can’t wait until November 8 for your fix of British baking? Don’t sweat. The current season still airs new episodes every Friday.

I have arrived! Holidays!

What a beautiful “disaster” of a spectacle. I can’t wait for Christmas-themed jokes from Nicole Byer and all the nightmarish Santa Claus that lie ahead. Plus, this season has a slew of hilarious celebrity judges, from Maya Rudolph to Jason Mantzoukas.

Merry merry all

Dennis Quaid plays a character named Don Quinn. I’m not even going to tell you what it is. I just want you to spend the rest of your day wondering if he was offered the role because he looks so much like his own name, if Quaid asked Netflix to change the character’s name to something else. similar to hers, or if it’s a total coincidence. When I finally get the chance to see Merry Happy Whatever, I expect to spend the entire duration of the film debating this very important question. Netflix also claims the character strongly believes “there is the Quinn way … and the wrong way”. What does all this mean? feel free to Tweet me your conspiracy theories now.

Sugar Rush Christmas

A Christmas-themed sugar rush season? Yes please! Netflix has made sure we’ll have plenty of cooking shows to watch this holiday season, and I’m here for it. This season features a number of guest judges, including Tiffani Thiessen and Olympic gold medalist Meryl Davis.

Magic for humans

A show on magic with an episode on Santa Claus? Apparently Justin Willman is going to teach children the magic of giving. I am all for making children better human beings.

Lost in space

Netflix claims it’s tied to Christmas. Maybe there is a Christmas episode? Apparently the show starts on Christmas Day. (Assuming they’re celebrating Christmas in space. Please tell me Santa will be in a spaceship.) On the plus side, fans of the first season will have the opportunity to watch the new season on Christmas Eve.

Home for Christmas

This Norwegian series tackles a painful thing for some returning home for Christmas: dealing with personal questions about why you don’t have a loved one. One Christmas, Johanne, a nurse in her thirties, refuses to repeat the experience. Over two seasons of romantic twists, she tries to find a boyfriend before the holidays.

Dash and Lily

A romantic comedy for young adults, this series is about Christmas – well, I hate it. Dash, 17, is cynical about the holidays, until through messages left in a notebook he gets to know the upbeat Lily. It’s cute as can be and, despite Dash’s initial attitude, filled with holiday cheer.
