CES 2021 was unlike any trade show we’ve ever experienced. Due to Covid-19, it was “fully digital” which actually meant “mostly websites”.
To find what’s new this year, we didn’t scour the millions of square feet of the Las Vegas Convention Center and surrounding facilities, but instead watched streaming presentations, browsed through hundreds of exhibitor “digital activations”. and, of course, heard plenty of presentations from entrepreneurs and marketers keen to keep us in the loop – global pandemic or not.
This means that we have not been able to touch and feel the innovations like the past years, although we did send things home. Still, that hasn’t stopped us from bringing you the craziest, coolest, and weirdest gadgets we can find.
Samsung Bot Handy and JetBot 90 AI +
Never again will you be scolded for putting forks in the dishwasher the wrong way round. Instead, point your finger at Samsung’s Handy Bot. The rolling robot looks straight out of the Jetsons house, navigating to pick up and store items. Advanced AI allows it to distinguish materials and decide how much force to use to grip objects, Samsung says. Bot Handy is in full development. What’s expected this year: the JetBot 90 AI +, Samsung’s latest stand-alone vacuum cleaner, which has a camera to avoid obstacles and keep an eye on your home when you’re away. LG Rollable Phone
LG is known to have some pretty crazy phones (example: the swivel screen wing), but its roll up phone seems to be the craziest yet. Teased at the end of LG’s CES press conference in a short video, the phone looks like a normal rectangle until a screen pops up like a garage door on its side to become a small tablet. The company has not revealed any other details, but said it will happen this year. TCL, another phone maker, also teased a roll-up phone with a screen that stretches from 6.7 inches to 7.8 inches with just a tap on the screen. lg.com
