The 2019 class of Samsung Galaxy smartphones have landed. Class is an appropriate way to say it too. The phone maker announced Wednesday four versions of its Galaxy S10, plus the Galaxy Fold, his brand new phone Bendy. They all look amazing, with edge-to-edge displays, a small beauty mark for their selfie cameras, new photography tips, built-in fingerprint sensors and other benefits like the ability to go without wire charge the other devices you drop on them. They may be the best Samsung phones ever; they are also the most expensive.
After soaring prices for Apple's iPhone, Samsung's Galaxy phones continue to soar with the S10 lineup. The Galaxy S10e flat-faced (that's "e" for "economy") is now $ 750, and it only gets worse from there. The standard Galaxy S10 starts at $ 900 and comes with a new rear triple camera, more RAM and a slightly larger battery. Its bigger brother, the Galaxy S10 Plus starts at $ 1,000 with an even bigger battery and a dual selfie camera spot built into his screen. We do not really know the price of the Galaxy S10 5G, but it's a safe bet that it exceeds $ 1,000. It has four rear cameras and is one of the first phones capable of connecting to 5G networks … as soon as they finally become a reality. (Maybe next year?) The unique Galaxy Fold is also pretty amazing, but starts to – get ready – $ 1,980.
There is no doubt that the Galaxy S10 phones are technical wonders, but having a smartphone with more does the screen really matter much? If you just want a really nice phone that works well and does not decimate your budget, here are some older Samsung phones that you should consider, as well as alternatives to Galaxy.

The Galaxy S9 is about a year old now, but it remains about as fast as the phones come out of the new S10. It's also several hundred dollars cheaper. The S9 (8/10, WIRED Recommends) has a camera capable of taking snaps with the best of them and benefits you do not see on all modern phones, such as a headphone jack and a MicroSD slot. It has a fingerprint sensor on the back, not a new fingerprint sensor in the display, but it's not really a dealbreaker. The standard model camera is also single lens, not triple lens; the wide-angle and zoom characteristics of the new S10 are therefore lacking. Oh, and there is a top and bottom frame on the phone instead of a camera dimple on the screen.
The good news: Samsung has updated the S9 for Android Pie, the latest version of Android, and even gave its interface a bit of makeover. Samsung is slow with updates, but there is a good chance this phone will get feature updates for a year or two. It is also unlocked, which means it will work on any wireless network.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 ($ 700 +)

Consider note 9 (8/10, WIRED recommendations) as a dazzling version of the S9. It has many of the same strengths and weaknesses, but it is bigger, it has more RAM, a better battery life and file storage under the hood. Like all Galaxy Notes, the S-Pen appears at the bottom so you can write or draw directly on the screen. It is more useful than ever and will not be a new phone, until Note 10 is inevitably on sale in August or September.
Whether you buy a note 9 or higher would depend on your size preferences and your feelings about the styli.

Avoid the Galaxy S8 and Note 8

There is nothing wrong with buying a two-year-old phone, like the Galaxy S8 or the Note 8. We just do not think you should. Two years later, Samsung supports phones with software updates, and the S8 has some disadvantages. The fingerprint sensor is right next to the rear camera and it is almost impossible to tell it to the touch. I have never stopped accidentally smearing the lens of my camera while trying to unlock my S8. It's a problem that seems silly, but that sometimes infuriates you. Battery life was also a little worse on these phones than their successors.
Note 8 also has a misplaced fingerprint sensor and may not obtain software support for too long. Both phones have fabulous cameras, but there have been some noticeable improvements over the past two years.

Google Pixel 3 ($ 750 +) is exceptional: The Pixel 3 is on sale at the end of 2018 and remains one of the fastest and best phones you can own. The camera is an asset thanks to a new feature called Night Sight that does exactly what you thought. It's also one of the only high-end phones to immediately receive software and security updates, directly from Google. I connected to B & H because it offers the best price now, but you can also get it directly from Google for $ 799. It works on the four major wireless networks.

OnePlus 6T ($ 579) also has an integrated fingerprint sensor: This is not flawless, but the OnePlus 6T is a very powerful phone at a lower price. It offers quick updates and an innovative sensor on the screen. I do not know yet if it's as fast or safe as Samsung's, but it works and is more convenient than some fingerprint sensors because of its location. It works on AT & T, T-Mobile and Verizon, basically everywhere except Sprint. You can also buy it directly from T-Mobile.

LG G7 ($ 430 +) is powerful and ideal for audio: The G7 also has an audio jack, a powerful processor and is one of the best phones for a high quality sound.
