Wake up and put on your hats, Elder Scrolls fans. The Elder Scrolls VI may still be quite a distance away, but that certainly never stopped anyone from trying to guess details of where and when it might take place. The game is underway again thanks to a map Bethesda posted with a message that appears to be a clue that ES6 will be heading to Hammerfell. May be.
Here is the full map below, which Bethesda posted with the message “Transcribe the past and map the future.” Here is a happy new year! It could be just a simple New Years wish with a Skyrim map or maybe a cryptic clue on next Elder Scrolls game.
People online are speculating that the placement of candles in the image is a clue to the future of the series. “Transcribing the Past” could refer to the candle next to Solitude, an important location in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. By this logic, the candle placed very obviously right under the empty, unfilled space labeled “Hammerfell” is surely what we’ll be mapping in the future, isn’t it?
Hammerfell, in the world of Tamriel, is home to the Redguard people. It is a mostly arid place with the great desert of Alik’r. It certainly looks solid that the original trailer below and this new card are singing the same song.
And the third candle, then? It sits alongside a set of coins that were included in The Elder Scrolls Online’s Greymoor Expansion Physical Collector’s Edition last year. Maybe it’s a past, present, future type thing? Heck, maybe the whole thing is an ESO related teaser. Or, in fact, it can be a fun little item meant to drive fans crazy.
Bethesda announced the upcoming Elder Scrolls game in 2018 and has said very, very little about it since. Years ago, behind the Starfield space RPG in their production schedule, and far enough away that they said we should probably ask for details years away. Of course, they would be cheeky if this turned out to be some sort of TES6 clue.
