Beto O 'Rourke plans an extended trip to Iowa

Beto O'Rourke is not only heading to Iowa for a punctual appearance in the campaign with a Senate candidate. He plans a trip of several days with many appearances in the first caucus, told POLITICO Tuesday two Democrats aware of his plans.

O'Rourke's councilors confirmed Monday that O'Rourke would attend a rally in Waterloo, Iowa on Saturday for Eric Giddens, a candidate for a special election on March 19th.

But two sources said Mr. O. Rourke was spending more days and new appearances on his trip as he was gearing up for an almost certain presidential campaign.

Norm Sterzenbach, a former executive director of the Iowa Democratic Party, is helping O'Rourke in the state. He was involved in organizing the extended trip, said one of the sources.

O'Rourke also began posting ads on Facebook for the first time since the mid-term elections. The ads, released Tuesday, are designed to build its mailing list, inviting fans to sign up to receive a notification when it announces its plans for 2020.

"I'm ready to share my projects," says one of the announcements.

O'Rourke's first trip to Iowa from the 2020 election cycle comes as the popularity of the former Texas Congressman has declined in the state. A survey by Des Moines Register / CNN / Mediacom released on Saturday showed O'Rourke's number of polls was reduced to 5 percent from 11 percent in December. Former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders have a length ahead of the rest of the pack in the state.

O'Rourke said nearly two weeks ago that he had made the decision to run for president. Over the weekend, he told reporters in Texas, "I want to make sure I get it right and I tell everyone at the same time, so I'll do it."

He said, "I have to be on the timeline that works for my family and for the country."

A spokesman for O & # 39; Rourke did not respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.
