Betsy DeVos extends student loan relief until end of January

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos extended the suspension of student loan payments on Friday until the end of January.

Borrowers have not had to repay their student loans since the Trump administration issued the relief in March, but the aid was scheduled to expire at the end of December.

DeVos has extended relief until January 31 to help those struggling with payments during the pandemic.

The new measure means that students will not be required to make payments and their loans will not bear interest.

Federal relief ends when President-elect Biden takes office. Biden’s administration would then have to decide whether or not to extend student loan assistance.
