It was sort of already confirmed that the upcoming Galaxy S21 Ultra will support the S Pen, but we weren’t sure about the implementation. Since the S21 Ultra won’t have a Note-type slot to house the stylus, the solution shouldn’t be particularly sleek. Unfortunately, this is exactly the case. A new leak shows us how Samsung wants you to keep the optional S Pen, reminding us of one of its recent budget tablets.

The S Pen itself is your usual barrel-shaped stylus and is very reminiscent of the one Samsung offers with the Tab S7. It is said to be pressure sensitive, using a Wacom digitizer, and can be used as a remote control for your presentations and the camera shutter. Moreover, it supports all kinds of aerial gestures using the on-board accelerometer. We understand that all of these wireless functions require battery power, but it’s unclear exactly how this S Pen is supposed to charge.

We do know, however, how you’re supposed to wear it. It turns out that one of the S21 family flip covers that we saw last week will have a slot to insert the S Pen. Samsung has clearly taken a page from its own book here and redirected a design choice that might work with the tablet budget for its top-of-the-line flagship for 2021. Using the S21 Ultra’s stylus would also mean you’ll have to. also support this extra-large enclosure, unless some third-party manufacturers offer a smarter solution.

Unlike Note phones, the S21 Ultra won’t come with the S Pen in the box; Samsung plans to sell it as an optional accessory for € 40, or around $ 50 in direct conversion. The company may have phone and stylus bundles (with a first-party case), but no pricing details for any of them were shared in this leak. We’ll find out for sure next week when Samsung prepares to unbox its 2021 line of smartphones.
