The Academy wrote: “Congratulations to the winner for Best Music Video – ‘BROWN SKIN GIRL’ @Beyonce #BlueIvy @wizkidayo Sparkles #GRAMMYs.” The track and accompanying video was part of Beyonce’s ‘Lion King’ album, ‘The Gift’ – and yes, Blue DOES has a verse in there.
She appears throughout the video alongside her mother, but towards the end … Blue demonstrates, almost identical to the intro and chorus … “Girl with brown skin // Your skin like pearls // The best thing in the world // I would never trade you for someone else, singing. “
It’s a small contribution, but it matters … and Blue is even a featured name on the song. So, yeah … she gets credit as well, and just as importantly, she also gets a statuette – joining her parents, who have dozens of Grammys between them. Now it’s a family affair!
At age 9, Blue became one of the youngest artists to receive this honor. In 2002, the music group The Peasall Sisters won the Grammy for Best Album for the soundtrack to “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” to which they contributed on “In the Highways”.
The youngest of these three sisters, Horrible, was 7 when she recorded it and 8 when she and her two other siblings won. Still, pretty impressive all around for Blue … congratulations !!!
