Bianca Belair vs Sasha Banks talks about representation

[ad_1]

during Talking Smack this week Bianca Belair was asked to explain her decision on her WrestleMania 37 opponent and she had this to say (transcript via Wrestling Inc):

“You know, choosing Asuka, you know, she’s a great champion on Gross, but the choice seemed so right to me to choose Sasha Banks. She’s ‘The Boss’, ‘The Standard’, and what other way to do it WrestleMania even bigger. Me who picked Sasha Banks tonight and be the first two African American women to headline WrestleMania, we just did WrestleMania bigger. It’s gonna be a magical night.

“To go to WrestleMania and facing Sasha Banks – standing in the ring with Sasha Banks – made that decision so real to me. I don’t know if people could tell, but I was shaking from my excitement… Now is not just the moment for us. It’s about everyone and what that will represent.

It’s at least possible that Belair vs Banks will end up as the main event of the show, even if it’s on one of the two nights of April 10 or 11 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. It would be important not only to Belair and Banks personally, but, as she mentioned, what it would represent – the first time any women would have been on the show, and the first time two African American women would have been the head of the show.

It is extremely important to show every African American girl who watches that she too can get to this point someday. Your dreams are never out of reach, even in a company like WWE.

Hope this happens.
