Biden and Harris announce all-female communications team

President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on Sunday announced an all-female communications team aimed at bringing “diverse perspectives” to the White House.

Jen Psaki, a key member of the transition team who served in the Obama-Biden administration, has been chosen as the new White House press secretary. Kate Bedingfield, who was the deputy campaign director for the Biden-Harris campaign, will serve as the White House’s director of communications.

In a statement, Biden called the team “skilled and experienced communicators” who “will bring diverse perspectives to their work and a shared commitment to rebuild this country for the better.”

Harris added that they will communicate “clearly, honestly and transparently” as the country grapples with the pandemic and a series of other crises.

Symone Sanders, one of the most important faces of the Biden 2020 campaign, will serve as Harris’ senior advisor and chief spokesperson.

Also on the list:

Elizabeth Alexander, senior advisor to the Biden-Harris campaign who will be the communications director for First Lady Jill Biden.

Ashley Etienne, a senior campaign advisor who will serve as Harris’ communications director.

Karine Jean Pierre, senior advisor to Biden who will serve as deputy press secretary.

Pili Tobar, campaign manager for Biden-Harris and former deputy director of America’s Voice, a non-profit organization that has advocated for immigration reform, will serve as the White House’s deputy director of communications.

Sunday’s announcement comes days after Biden announced several other high-level administration picks, including former Federal Reserve Chairman Janet Yellen as Treasury Secretary and former Secretary of State John Kerry as its chief climate adviser. Longtime aide Ron Klain will be Biden’s new chief of staff.

The Trump administration officially cleared Biden’s transition last week, giving him access to key resources and information as he prepares to take office in January. President Donald Trump did not concede the election, vowing in a Fox News interview earlier Sunday to continue his legal battle against the results.
