On Friday, the White House recognized Khan, one of the founders of the Constitutional Literacy and National Unity Project, as “a defender of religious freedom as a central element of human dignity.” The ad said Khan “devotes a substantial amount of his time to providing legal services to veterans, men and women serving in uniform and their families.”
He continued, “Today’s announcement underscores the president’s commitment to building an administration that resembles America and reflects people of all faiths.”
In addition to Khan, the White House appointed Rashad Hussain as the first Muslim roving ambassador for international religious freedom and Deborah Lipstadt as special envoy to monitor and combat anti-Semitism.
