Biden backs the right of Amazon workers to try to organize

“I have been saying for a long time that America was not built by Wall Street,” began the president. “It was built by the middle class and the unions built the middle class.”

Biden has long cultivated an image of a friend of organized labor, but had previously largely avoided efforts to organize Amazon workers at a site in Bessemer, Alabama.

“If we don’t have the leader of the free world standing up and saying, ‘I have the backs of these workers, so that they can really freely choose their union,’ … we are leaving them stranded,” Sara Nelson, president of the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, told POLITICO in an interview.
