President Biden has “bigger problems” to worry about than following his own rule about wearing a face mask on federal property, according to White House press secretary Jennifer Psaki.
The new president ditched his face mask for a while while addressing the public Wednesday from the Lincoln Memorial, on federal lands, and as he stood at the foot of the statue of the country’s 16th president, footage by C-SPAN. He put on his mask after the address. Hours earlier, he had signed a warrant requiring masks on federal property, as well as on interstate public travel.
Biden’s older grandchildren and Biden’s daughter Ashley have also been spotted without a mask.
BIDEN SPOTTED MASKLESS ON FEDERAL PROPERTY
Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked the press secretary about the Biden family’s mask-less times during a briefing Thursday. Psaki said the president “celebrated” a “historic day in our country”. She said he had been surrounded by his family.
She said the mask warrant had “sent a message” to the public about the importance of wearing the mask.
“We are taking a number of Covid precautions here, as you know,” Psaki continued. “I don’t know if I have more for you than that.”
Doocy pointed to a phrase Biden coined in his inaugural address about leading “not only by the example of our power, but by the power of our example.”
“Was that a good example for the people watching?” Doocy asked.

“I think we have bigger issues to deal with right now,” Psaki said.
“Wearing masks is not a partisan issue – it is a patriotic act that can save countless lives,” Biden tweeted Wednesday night. “That’s why I signed an executive order today issuing a mask warrant on federal property. It’s time to mask America.”
Biden’s executive order, the “100-day masking challenge,” will require masks and social distancing in all federal buildings, on all federal land and by federal employees and contractors, as well as on airlines , trains and transit systems traveling between states.
While a president can’t tell state and local authorities what to demand, Biden’s order will push states to adopt their own mandates. Most states have already done so.
During his inaugural address, the new commander-in-chief warned that the country’s “darkest and deadliest” days of the coronavirus pandemic could be ahead.

Earlier in the press conference, Dr Anthony Fauci said that despite a “very, very high rate” of coronavirus cases, the United States may have reached a plateau. “There are always lags… but deaths and hospitalizations can increase… it’s not unusual to see that.
