President Joe Biden made a bizarre blunder Tuesday regarding Michigan’s lieutenant governor by introducing Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and his deputy.
The President visited the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 324 Training Center in Howell on Tuesday in a bid to gain support for a $ 1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill and its larger Build Back Better program, which includes a proposed $ 3.5 trillion reconciliation program. After congratulating Whitmer on being “one of the best governors in the United States of America,” he added an odd comment about Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist.
“And her lieutenant governor covering her in every way, both physically and mentally, and in every other way,” Biden said.
Biden has a history of verbal errors and blunders in his speeches. It was reported last month that some White House staff even resorted to muting him on TV or completely disabling his public appearances to avoid any possible confusion or embarrassment.

The venue for Biden’s speech was held outside with a small subset of chairs, with around 40 people in attendance. Also in attendance were U.S. Democratic Reps Andy Levin from Bloomfield Township, Debbie Dingell from Dearborn and Dan Kildee from Flint Township, seated in the front row, according to the Detroit News.
Biden’s visit comes as his agenda stalled last week after centrist Democrats in the Senate refused to budge on their stated disagreement with the $ 3.5 trillion package, as Senator Joe Manchin said the price far exceeded the desired price range of $ 1.5 trillion for the bill.

Outside the union site where the president was speaking, large crowds of supporters of former President Donald Trump gathered with placards and flags, some with signs reading “Trump won”, in reference to last year’s presidential election.
