Less than a week after announcing a vaccination mandate for private sector companies that employ at least 100 workers, Democratic President Joe Biden met with senior CEOs and other business leaders at the White House on Wednesday to persuade companies to support the requirement.
According to CNBC, Microsoft President Brad Smith, Disney CEO Bob Chapek, Walgreens CEO Roz Brewer, Kaiser Permanente CEO Greg Adams and Columbia Sportswear CEO Tim Boyle were among the guests.
The New York Times reported that Boyle “said in an interview on Wednesday that his company wrote a policy mandating vaccines months ago. But he had delayed the execution until Mr Biden announced last week that he was directing the Labor Department to issue an emergency security statement that would effectively work as a vaccine warrant for tens of millions of people. workers.

A White House official described the rally as a “rallying cry” to urge other companies to follow suit.
According to the Washington Post, Biden “seeks to show that his actions have the backing of some of the nation’s largest corporations and sideline criticism from Republicans that the mandates are overbroad by the executive.” The requirement is expected to affect more than 80 million employees in private sector companies. Unvaccinated workers will be tested weekly if they choose not to be bitten.

GOP governors leading other states, including Texas, South Carolina, Montana and Alabama, have expressed similar sentiments.
According to ABC News, “Arizona became the first state to continue the mandate this week, although the Department of Labor has yet to create the rule requiring the vaccine.”
Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich, a Republican candidate for the US Senate, released a statement on Tuesday claiming that Biden’s tenure violates the equal protection clause because migrants illegally crossing the southern border are not required to to get vaccinated.
“There can be no serious or scientific discussion about limiting the spread of COVID-19 that does not start at our southern border,” Brnovich said.
Recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that 54% of the U.S. population has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
