Meagher got his start in politics working in press and communications for former Rep. Lois Capps (D-Calif.). He was a senior communications advisor for the Democratic Parties in the states of Colorado and Montana. He also worked for Senator Jon Tester’s (D-Mont.) Re-election campaign in 2018.
In addition to the potential hiring of Meagher, Andrew Bates is also expected to enter the White House as a deputy press secretary, according to the two people familiar with the matter. Bates would do so once he completes his transition communications job, where he focuses on Senate confirmations of cabinet candidates. Bates declined to comment.
A highly regarded North Carolina native, Bates worked as the rapid response director for the Biden campaign. He worked in the Obama White House communications store and also served as the U.S. Trade Representative’s press secretary before a gig as the North Carolina communications director for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. He is also a 21st century Democrat American Bridge Super PAC alumnus.
While Bates began working in Democratic politics while at North Carolina State University, he is alone in his immediate family working in politics. He told POLITICO in a question and answer session last month that he was “the only member of my immediate family who is not a professional classical musician. I thought I would end this on a high note. Find? 🙂 “
