KEENE, New Hampshire – Democratic leader 2020, Joe Biden, began a rally on Saturday vowing not to criticize President Trump on foreign policy while the president was attending the G7 summit in France.
"It's an intentional omission," he said, addressing about 200 people at Keene State College. "Do not criticize them when they are engaged abroad in a foreign policy."
Biden described the practice as the norm for him when it was a sitting president, but he told the public that he would have comments on the summit, as well as on Russia and other topics, when Trump would come back to the United States.
The former vice president seemed to be referring to the concept of American politics ending at the "edge of the water". This concept was formulated in 1947 by Senator Arthur Vandenberg, a Michigan Republican who was then the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and urged President Harry Truman to adopt a bipartisan approach to foreign policy.
In February, Biden was criticized for attacking Trump in Munich, claiming that America was "embarrassed".
In New Hampshire, feel free to criticize the president in other areas. He stated that the Trump administration "seemed to be collapsing" and predicted that it would act "more erratically".
"The simple truth is that President Trump is in trouble and that he knows it," Biden said after finding that economists had predicted an impending recession.
He also criticized the president's comments on immigration and race. "The president has decided to be president of his base," Biden said. "I will be a president for every American."
