Operation Warp Speed will no longer be called by this name when Joe Biden’s administration is operational. It was decided to clear that nickname and replace it with one that hopes Biden’s team will inspire more confidence in vaccines.
Let’s be honest, though. Operation Warp Speed is Trump’s legacy and a very good one at it. Never has a vaccine been developed, manufactured and distributed so quickly. Biden seeks to eliminate as much of Trump’s policies and accomplishments as possible during his tenure and this small move is part of that mindset. The Biden team justifies the name change because they claim that while the campaign for the vaccine was successful, the operation fell short of expectations in terms of vaccine distribution and in people’s arms. The name implies to some people who are reluctant to receive the vaccine a precipitated, possibly inferior product.
Here’s the problem – any concerns about the vaccine’s effectiveness or its safety were caused by the very people who now want to rename the operation. Before the vaccine was ready for distribution, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, along with many other Trump critics (Democrats) were keen to tell anyone who listened to them that they would hesitate or even refuse to take the vaccine. ‘it was developed and made available during Trump’s tenure. They sounded like anti-vaxxers instead of praising the efforts of scientists and the most impressive public-private partnership in recent times. They managed to instill enough doubt and fear in people that now every available official or familiar face has received a vaccination in front of the cameras to reassure the public of their safety.
The Biden administration wants its own name so that the Operation Warp Speed nickname is replaced. Many officials working on the program will remain as the new administration enters. Biden spokeswoman Jen Psaki explained the change. Part of the focus on distribution is Biden’s promise to get 100 million shots in the arms by his first 100 days in office. It’s an eye-catching goal, but they’re probably setting themselves up for failure.
“OWS is the Trump team’s name for their program,” Ms. Psaki wrote on Twitter, using the program’s initials. “We are setting up a new structure, which will have a different name from OWS. Many officials will be critical to our response, but there is an urgent need to address the failures of the Trump team’s approach to vaccine distribution.
The announcement came as Operation Warp Speed faced new fury after it was indicated that more doses from a stockpile would be sent to the States. But federal officials have since clarified that the doses actually come from a slice saved for second doses.
Ms Psaki added that Biden Covid’s response would be executed from the White House. Dr Bechara Choucair, former Chicago health department commissioner, “will oversee vaccination efforts,” Psaki said, including working to fulfill Mr Biden’s pledge to get “100 million Covid vaccines through arms of the American people “his 100th day in office.
Biden asked Dr David Kessler, former head of the Food and Drug Administration, to oversee the acceleration of the development, manufacture and distribution of coronavirus vaccines. Kessler is a retreaded tire from the George HW Bush and Clinton administrations. He became more popular with Democrats than Republicans in his old job after a few controversial actions. He served as an advisor to Biden and co-chair of the Transition Team’s Covid-19 working group. Kessler will replace Dr Moncef Slaoui. Slaoui will remain as a consultant. General Gustave F. Perna will remain the chief operating officer.
Biden frequently says he will listen to scientists when making important policy decisions. Members of the Science Party, however, were the first to criticize Operation Warp Speed instead of acknowledging its historical significance. Rather than giving credit to the Trump administration, they seemed childish and partisan. Often times Joe Biden seems to think that if he pronounces the word “science” enough, his ideas will be legitimate. Biden appointed Eric Lander to be his science adviser and director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy on Friday. He also elevated the post to a cabinet level post. Lander is president and founding director of the Broad Institute at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Ironically, when announcing Lander’s appointment, Biden opened up about a conversation he had with Xi Jinping during his years as vice president. He said, “He asked me if I could explain America to him. And I said, “Yeah, I could. In short: possibilities. ” Ah yes. How about the possibility for the Biden group to make a lot of money from shady deals during this time, Joe? It does not matter.
Biden outlined five areas the science team will focus on:
First, the pandemic and what can we learn about what is possible or what should be possible,
meet the broadest spectrum of our public health needs?Second, the economy, and how can we better rebuild to ensure prosperity is fully shared across America and among all Americans?
Third, how can science help us tackle the climate crisis with American jobs and ingenuity?
Fourth, how can we ensure that the United States leads the world in the technologies and industries of the future that will be critical to our economic prosperity and national security, especially as we are in compete with China and other nations?
And fifth, how can we ensure long term health and confidence in science and technology in our country?
Kessler is said to be close to Dr Fauci. They worked closely to accelerate drug development and approval during the AIDS epidemic in the 90s. However, there is still no vaccine for AIDS, so take this partnership and all that Joe Biden said with a grain of salt.
