Biden says he’s optimistic about gun control

President Biden expressed optimism on Sunday that a gun control law would be passed on Capitol Hill – saying he had done it before and could do it again.

“I was the only one who got it through, man,” Biden told reporters at New Castle Air National Guard Base in Delaware.

“Everyone wonders if I care about rational gun control – the only gun control law ever passed is mine.

“It’s going to happen again.”

The president said he was even prepared to call on Republican members of Congress to help push through a deal in an equally divided Senate.

Biden was referring to the 1994 federal assault weapons ban. The ban expired in 2004.

The impetus for more gun control was raised in recent weeks when two separate mass shootings took place at Atlanta-area spas and a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado.

Biden, however, would not answer a reporter’s question about whether he would make a trip to the border, as the United States sees an increase in the number of immigrants from Mexico.

The question came as new photos from Sunday revealed overcrowded conditions at border facilities.

On a sour note for Biden, the president said he was forgoing candy and candy in anticipation of the Easter holiday.

“You have no idea how hard it is for me,” he says.
