Former Vice President Joe Biden immediately ridiculed the fact that he had launched a staggering debate during Thursday night's debate over the fact that "non-violent" criminals should not be imprisoned.
The apparent blunder occurred during a heated discussion on criminal justice reform.
Biden said that too many people are in prison and that the system requires changes. Then he made a bold proclamation.

"No one should be in jail for a non-violent crime," said Biden.
Social media quickly buzzed in his statement, with commentators focusing on the consequences this would have for white-collar criminals.
Some quickly realized what it would mean for former Trump campaign director Paul Manafort, imprisoned for various white-collar offenses.
Others focused on Bernie Madoff, an orchestrator of Ponzi schemes, and on "Pharma Bro," Martin Shkreli, to name a few crime writers who would be affected by such a policy.

Josh Kraushaar, Editor-in-Chief of the National Review, predicts that Biden's camp will not abide by this claim.
It turns out that Kraushaar was right. A Biden assistant quickly told Daily Beast reporter Sam Stein that Biden "was talking about nonviolent drug offenses".
Biden was one of 10 Democratic candidates participating in ABC News's Houston debate.
