Joe Biden says the United States is “weeks ahead of schedule” and will be the first country in the world to have 100 million vaccinations.

The President made his confident statement at a federal vaccination site in Texas shortly after experts recommended Johnson & Johnson’s single-shot vaccine for FDA clearance.

Mr Biden told the crowd that the United States is now on the cusp of meeting its goal of 100 million vaccinations in its first 100 days in the White House.

“The more people who are vaccinated, the faster we will overcome this pandemic,” he said.

“America will be the first in the world to achieve this, and I’m proud to say we’re halfway there, 50 million shots.

“We are weeks ahead of schedule, even with the delays caused by the winter storm, we are heading in the right direction.

And he. added, “In five weeks the United States has vaccinated more people than anyone else in the world, that’s a big step forward.”

But he warned Americans not to become complacent and to keep their social distances, to wash their hands and wear masks.

“This is not a political statement. It’s a patriotic thing to do, ”he said of wearing a mask.

And he urged Americans to get vaccinated while praising their safety.

“If there is one message that needs to eliminate all of this, it is that vaccines are safe,” he said.

“I promise you, they are safe and effective.”

Mr Biden said he spent the day with Republican politicians, with whom he disagreed on policy.

“But there are a lot of things we can work on together. And one of them is pictured here today, the effort to speed up vaccinations, ”Biden added.

“We don’t hit Democrats or Republicans; Again, we are giving the Americans a chance.

Mr Biden and First Lady Dr Jill Biden spent the day in Texas to meet with emergency responders and learn about the state’s recovery from the deadly winter storm that left millions of people without power, heat and water .

The President also visited and met with volunteers from the Houston Food Bank and FEMA Vaccination Center at the city’s NRG Stadium.

“Jill and I wanted to visit Texas today to let people know that our prayers are with you in the aftermath of this winter storm, and second to let you know that we will be true partners in helping you recover from these storms. and to rebuild yourself pandemic and economic crisis. We’re here for the long haul, ”Biden said.

“We’re not here as Democrats or Republicans, we’re here today as Americans. We have a responsibility to everyone we serve.

“When a crisis hits our states, like in Texas, it’s not a Republican or a Democrat who suffers, it’s an American who suffers.

“And it’s our job to help all those in need, to look out for each other, to leave no one behind.”
