WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden is expected to deliver remarks on his administration’s response to Covid-19 and vaccination efforts following the Food and Drug Administration’s decision to fully approve the Covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech .
FDA approval of the vaccine on Monday, the first in the United States to earn the coveted designation, is expected to give even more companies, schools and universities across the country greater confidence to adopt mandates vaccine.
The mRNA vaccine, which will be marketed as Comirnaty, was on the US market under emergency use authorization that was granted by the FDA in December. Since then, more than 204 million Pfizer vaccines have been administered, according to data compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Prior to the president’s remarks, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the Defense Department was preparing updated guidelines requiring all military personnel to receive the Pfizer vaccine.
“A schedule for completion of the vaccination will be provided in the coming days, the health of the force, our military and civilian employees, families and communities is a top priority,” Kirby said.
The president could also provide an update on the emergency evacuations in Kabul of American citizens, American embassy staff, citizens of NATO countries, Afghan nationals at risk as well as Afghan nationals who have obtained special immigrant visas.
