Biden’s expected OMB candidate confirmed

A spokesman for Republican Senator John Cornyn said Sunday night that there was “no chance” that the Senate would confirm President-elect Joe Biden’s expected candidate as head of the Bureau of Management and Budget.

“Neera Tanden, who has an endless stream of derogatory comments about which Republican senators she will need votes for, has no chance of being confirmed,” Cornyn communications director Drew Brandewie said, written on twitter.

Tanden is the president and CEO of the liberal think tank Center for American Progress. Previously, she was senior advisor to Obama’s health and human services secretary, Kathleen Sebelius.

If appointed, as multiple media reported earlier on Sunday, Tanden would need 51 votes in the Senate to fill the role.

Republicans currently hold 50 seats for the next 48 Democrats’ session. Party control will be decided with the next two senatorial elections in Georgia.

If Democrats won both seats in Georgia, the Senate would be at a 50-50 deadlock, with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris breaking the tie.
