President Joe Biden’s top priorities are to unite the country against him, an adviser to former President Donald Trump said on Saturday.
“Does any normal person right now in this country think that the top priority is not to deport criminal illegal aliens who have committed violent offenses against US citizens?” Stephen Miller, who served as Trump’s adviser for four years, said during an appearance on Fox News’ “Watters World”.
Miller also referred to Biden’s executive orders canceling construction of the Keystone XL pipeline and joining the Paris Climate Agreement.
“What are the priorities? These are the priorities of a select group of extreme left special interests, who have jobs, wealth and security and who despise ordinary citizens who just want to live better, safer and healthier lives ” Miller said.
While Biden has promised to unite the country, so far “he has united Democrats, Republicans and Independents against his open border program,” Miller added.
The White House did not respond to a request for comment.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters after Biden signed a wave of orders on inauguration day that Biden “will rule for all Americans.”
“This, of course, has to be backed up with actions, as you said,” she added. “But he’s going to venture to do that in – in every policy that he pursues, every commitment that he has, because he thinks that if we can come together, we’ll be a stronger country.”
Some groups of voters who endorsed Biden have announced their opposition to some of the orders signed during his early days in office.
The International Union of Workers of North America applauded when Biden won the election. But the union denounced Biden’s cancellation of the Keystone pipeline, saying it would “kill thousands of well-paying union jobs.” The United Association of Union Plumbers and Pipe Fitters also announced its opposition to the cancellation.
Biden’s moratorium on new oil leases and drilling permits has also drawn criticism.
“During his inauguration, President Biden spoke of bringing our nation together. Eliminating drilling on public lands will cost thousands of New Mexicans their jobs and destroy what is left of our state’s economy, ”Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway told The Associated Press. “How does that bring us together?” Environmental efforts must be fair and well-documented, not instinctive mandates that only hurt an already impoverished state.
