Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will have surgery on the right elbow and miss the rest of the season, coach Mike Tomlin said Monday.

In a statement released by the team, Tomlin announced that Roethlisberger would be operated at some point this week after undergoing an MRI on Sunday night.

The Steelers, who will put Roethlisberger on the list of injured, have not yet provided details of this injury.

Roethlisberger, 37, was injured late in the second quarter of Sunday's 28-26 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He grabbed a nudge after attempting a pass during the team's last halftime. He entered the locker room briefly but remained on the sidelines for the last two minutes of the first half and for the entire second half.

In the absence of Roethlisberger, second-year quarterback Mason Rudolph nearly knocked the Steelers back in the fourth quarter on his first career appearance, completing 12 of 19 attempts for 112 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
