Big Hit Entertainment and Universal Music Group Join Forces to Launch New Global Boy Group!
On February 18 KST, the two companies made a joint announcement regarding their strategic partnership, which recently began with their association to make VenewLive (the live digital streaming platform that Big Hit uses for its online concerts) a global platform.
In a video featuring Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grainge, Big Hit Entertainment CEO Bang Si Hyuk, and Big Hit Entertainment global CEO Lenzo Yoon (Yoon Seok Joon), the companies have officially announced that they will be launching an artist debut project ”which would involve an audition program.
Lenzo Yoon said, “With Universal Music Group, Big Hit Entertainment will launch a new boy group that will be active on the world stage. We will be selecting members at a global audition and aim to broadcast this audition program with a US media partner in 2022. ”
He went on to say that Big Hit would be responsible for training the artists, while Universal Music Group would produce the audition program with US media partners.
“In this project, Big Hit Entertainment will be responsible for discovering and training artists, producing content for fans and communicating with fans through Weverse,” explained Lenzo Yoon. “Using their powerful local network, Universal Music Group will be in charge of music production, global distribution and production of the audition program with US media partners.”
He later added, “A Los Angeles-based joint venture will serve as the label overseeing this new group. Big Hit will work closely with Universal Music Group through Big Hit America, our US subsidiary. “
