WASHINGTON – Employees at large tech companies have been a key source of contributions to Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, according to recently released campaign fundraising records, eclipsing employee donations from traditional democratic funding sources such as banks and law firms.
Employees of Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc., and Microsoft Corp., Amazon.com Inc., Apple Inc., and Facebook Inc. were the top five sources of funding for Mr. Biden’s campaign and committees. joint fundraising among those who identify corporate employers, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis of campaign fundraising reports.
Mr. Biden’s presidential campaign received at least $ 15.1 million from employees of these five tech companies, according to records. The companies declined to comment.
Former Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have also received large contributions from employees of tech companies, but their primary sources of employee donations have extended beyond the tech sector.
Ms.Clinton’s biggest sources of funding from those who identified employers in 2016 included employees at personal injury law firm Morgan & Morgan and JPMorgan Chase & Co., as well as Google, Microsoft and Apple, according to voter registers compiled by the Non-partisan Center for Reactive Politics.
