Another Qatari official told the news agency that 236 passengers were on board the flight, making it the largest evacuation flight since the complete withdrawal of US and Allied forces on August 31, according to Reuters.
“Qatar will continue to work with its international partners on efforts to ensure freedom of movement in Afghanistan, while working with various parties on the ground to move the country forward more generally,” the Qatari official told Reuters .
The theft comes a month after the Taliban took full control of Afghanistan for the first time since 2001, when US troops invaded in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Qatar is a close ally of the United States and the Taliban, home to the largest US military base in the Middle East and having housed a Taliban political office for eight years.
