Biggest Mod Fallout Ever Made Releases After Seven Years of Development, Immediately Crashes Popular Mod Website • Eurogamer.net

Fallout New Vegas’ highly anticipated mod, The Frontier, released yesterday – and immediately brought the popular mod website Nexus to a standstill.

Even now, hours after launch, The Frontier’s NexusMods page is broken.

The Frontier, which has been in the works for seven years, is the biggest mod ever made for a Fallout game. The release trailer is below:

You fight in the frozen and snow-capped deserts of Portland Oregon under the banner of the New California Republic, the Caesars Legion or the Crusaders of Steel. The Frontier is described as “a new game size mod,” and features vehicles to drive (which Bethesda games don’t), voiceovers, new characters, and loads of quests.

But the launch did not go smoothly. NexusMods has been taken offline for much of yesterday, and although it’s back online, The Frontier’s NexusMods page is empty.

The original plan was to release The Frontier on Steam at the same time, but that launch has been postponed until next week. Some of those who managed to get the mod to work have reported technical difficulties, so it may be a good idea to wait until Steam is released anyway.

Despite these startup issues, what is clear is that there is huge interest in a traditional, single-player Fallout experience at a time when Bethesda is focusing on Fallout 76 multiplayer. Maybe the company, now under the banner of Microsoft, of course has a group of people working on what will be the next new official game in Fallout.
