Whatever they may think or say in private, neither Bill Belichick nor Tom Brady are ever going to say anything in public that would piss off the other guy even more before their very first game against each other.
Belichick put it in place on Friday.
When asked if he would have had the success he had without Brady, Belichick replied, “Of course not.”
It got better when Belichick was asked to explain how their partnership brought the team to the top.
“We could talk about it for two decades. I think I’ve been on the record, I don’t know, dozens of times saying there wasn’t a quarterback that I would rather have than Tom Brady. And I still feel that way. I was very lucky to have Tom as a quarterback to – to coach him. He was as good as any coach could ever ask for.
That’s exactly what Belichick would say. What he has to say. That’s right. No matter if and to what extent the separation was mutual, they had a success that will never be duplicated, at least not in our lifetime. Both must realize this.
There is no Belichick without Brady, and there is no Brady without Belichick. And both needed a large group of other talented, selfless, committed and motivated players.
