“Real Time” host Bill Maher had fun on Friday night at the expense of Caitlyn Jenner, who announced earlier today that she was running for California governor amid the recall effort to Democrat Gavin Newsom.
“I know you think of her as a reality TV star, but come on, folks, change,” Maher joked. “She’s trans, rested and ready. She has a great slogan, ‘Get the bag out of Sacramento. “”
After hitting the “stupid” recall election, the HBO star took aim at Jenner’s GOP credentials.

“I love it about her. I wasn’t always sure about the man-woman thing, but low capital gains taxes born that way!” Maher joked.
He continued, “And of course a lot of people say, ‘Isn’t it weird for a trans woman to be part of a party that passes anti-trans laws across the country? “And Caitlyn said,” Yeah, I understand that. It’s just something about being at a party that doesn’t respect me that makes me feel like I’m at home with the Kardashians. ”
Jenner, the Olympic gold-medal-winning decathlete turned transgender rights activist, took to Twitter to announce her intention to officially launch her gubernatorial bid as millions of Californians pushed to remove Newsom from office.
“Here I am! California is worth fighting for,” Jenner tweeted Friday.

Jenner has assembled a team of prominent Republican agents to advise the campaign, including Tony Fabrizio and Steven Cheung, a pollster for Trump’s 2016 and 2020 presidential campaign, and Steven Cheung, a campaign aide for the White House and re-election which worked on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s successful victory in the governor’s recall election in 2003.

“California has been my home for almost 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, no matter what their background or situation in life, could make their dreams come true, ”Jenner wrote. “But over the past decade we’ve seen the Golden State’s glow diminished by the one-party regime that puts politics above progress and special interests above people. Sacramento needs a leader. honest with a clear vision. “

And she boasted that she is “a proven winner and the only outsider who can end Gavin Newsom’s disastrous period as governor.”
Other well-known Republicans have already announced their candidacies. Among them: businessman John Cox, the 2018 GOP gubernatorial candidate who lost to Newsom by almost 25 points; former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer; and former rep Doug Ose.
