Former Massachusetts governor Bill Weld officially announced Monday his candidacy for the White House, pushing him into an extreme ascent to defeat incumbent President Donald Trump, a candidate for the Republican nomination.
"It's time for patriotic men and women from our great country to get up and plant a flag. It is time to return to Lincoln's principles – equality, dignity and opportunity for all. There is no greater cause on earth than to preserve what really makes America great. I'm ready to lead this fight, "Weld said in a statement, launching his bid to overthrow Trump, who remains very popular with Republicans.
Weld, a very virulent critic of Trump, also released a three-minute video highlighting his achievements during his two terms as governor of Massachusetts in the 1990s.

The video also featured excerpts from some of Trump's most controversial moments, from Trump's infamous "Access Hollywood" video using obscene language to brag about groping and sexually fucking women without their consent, going through the president's remarks following the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he said "there were very good people on both sides" during clashes between supporters and protesters of Confederate monuments in the city.
Weld, who recently returned to the Republican Party after being nominated Libertarian Party candidate in 2016, set up a presidential exploratory committee in February.
LARA TRUMP ASKS SOMEONE WHO WOULD BE 'DUMB ENOUGH & # 39; AT THE PRIMARY CHALLENGE OF THE PRESIDENT
At that announcement, while he was staging the Politics and Eggs series of lectures in New Hampshire, he called Trump "compulsive" and "irrational." He said, "We have a president whose priorities are geared towards promoting himself rather than the good of the country."
He also lamented the GOP's state, saying that "the president has captured the Republican party in Washington. Sad. But even sadder, many Republicans present all the symptoms of Stockholm Syndrome and identify with their abductor. "
After his announcement, Mr. Weld went on several occasions to the country's first presidential state. He is ready to return Tuesday for a two-day swing in New Hampshire.
The former Ohio governor, John Kasich, another Trump critic, spoke of the GOP's main challenge against Trump. The same goes for Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, who will be heading to New Hampshire next week for "Politics and Eggs", which is a must for White House hopefuls.
The president's campaign advisor and daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, said the president's 2020 team was not at all worried about a Republicans' main challenge.

"I do not know why anyone would be stupid enough to challenge Donald Trump," she told Fox News recently about Weld.
"I do not know why anyone would want to waste their time and money on the Republican side trying to challenge the president. That does not worry us at all, "added Trump, who was interviewed before the head of the annual New Hampshire GOP fundraising gala.
