Intrigue has been built throughout the week around Sean McDermott’s plans for playing time for his Buffalo Bills in the season finale against the Miami Dolphins.
Apparently the plan is to play “a lot of key players,” including quarterback Josh Allen.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on Saturday that the Bills “might rest a few, but the belief is that many key players will go – (Bills) can land 2 seeds, with Josh Allen’s latest MVP,” tweeted Fowler.

Bills can actually get the no. 2 seeds in the AFC with a win or loss for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mike Tomlin revealed this week that his plan is to put most of his key players to rest, including Ben Roethlisberger and TJ Watt.
Allen is right in the heart of the MVP race. He currently has the third best odds (+1400) to win behind Aaron Rodgers of Green Bay (-650) and Patrick Mahomes of Kansas City (+350). He can currently strengthen his case with a few more touchdowns added to his franchise record 43 this season. Allen is just 40 passing yards from breaking Drew Bledsoe’s single-season passing record of 4,359 yards in 2002. Allen broke Jim Kelly’s single-season pass touchdown record last week and currently stands at 34 for the year.
Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs himself had a career season when he first met in Buffalo. His 120 catches and 1,459 yards are two new franchise records, overtaking legendary Bills wide receiver Eric Molds in recent weeks.
If the Bills beat the Dolphins on Sunday, they’ll get the AFC East’s first 6-0 sweep and the third 13-game winning season in franchise history.
The Bills are set to face Dolphins rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for the first time this weekend after facing veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick in week two. Fitzpatrick tested positive for Covid-19 this week and will miss the game.
Bills Safety Micah Hyde said this week he wanted to play against the Dolphins.
“Honestly, it’s nothing but competitive fire right now, for me personally. I want to play, ”Hyde said. “Whatever decisions are obviously (that are made), I have no control over it. But I want to play and I want to go out there and compete. I feel like it’s crazy that I’m saying this, it’s eighth grade (for me) and week 17 and I still feel like I still have things to work on. I’m trying to go out there, compete and improve, and give the playoff momentum.
