Bills scoring Steelers: Ben Roethlisberger and Pittsburgh turn 10-point deficit into impressive Buffalo win

It was the story of two halves in Buffalo. After doing next to nothing in the first half, Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers offense managed four consecutive goals in the second half. Pittsburgh also scored a point on special teams while turning a 10-0 halftime deficit into a 23-16 surprise win.

The game started quickly, with Isaiah McKenzie returning the 75-yard opening kickoff to set up Tyler Bass’s 37-yard field goal. But both teams would struggle on offense for the remainder of the half before Bills quarterback Josh Allen was able to lead a 13-game, 91-yard practice that ended with his pass from three-yard touchdown to Gabriel Davis during Buffalo’s last practice before intermission. Buffalo had almost twice as many yards on that record as the Steelers all halftime.

Pittsburgh responded with four straight scores to take a 20-10 lead in the fourth quarter. The Steelers started the halftime with two 10-game practices that ended with short home-field goals from Chris Boswell. Their third half-time practice ended with a five-yard touchdown pass from Roethlisberger to Diontae Johnson, who landed an impressive take on Levi Wallace. Najee Harris’ best run of the day, a 17-yard breakthrough through the left side of the Buffalo defense, gave Johnson a touchdown. The Steelers’ lead increased to 10 points after Ulysees Gilbert III returned Miles Killebrew’s blocked punt on nine yards for a score.

Devin Singletary’s 15-yard and 25-yard runs set up Bass’s second basket with 5:26 left. The Steelers responded to Boswell’s third field goal with one of their own, which was set up by Roethlisberger’s 14-yard completion to Chase Claypool on a 3rd-8th play. The Bills responded with another field goal, but the recovery of JuJu Smith-Schuster’s kick sealed the Steelers’ first victory in 2021.
