One person was bitten by an animal and seriously injured during Carole Baskin’s Big Cat rescue Thursday morning, Hillsborough County Fire Department spokesman Eric Seidel told BuzzFeed News.

Baskin, a controversial animal rights activist, rose to prominence in March after appearing in Netflix docu-series Tiger King, and later competed on Dance with the stars.

Firefighters responded to a call around 8:30 a.m. Thursday from the Baskin Big Cat Sanctuary in Tampa, Fla. That a person had been bitten by an animal.

Fire officials could not provide details of who was bitten or by which animal due to medical confidentiality laws. The sanctuary is best known for its tigers, but is also home to lions, leopards, cougars, bobcats, and servals.

“We treated at the scene and transported the patient to a local hospital with what we would qualify as a serious injury,” Seidel said.

Baskin did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BuzzFeed News.
