Dwayne Johnson's long film of Black Adam would have taken a big step forward to become a reality.

Various reports (via the Observer) indicate that director Jaume Collet-Serra (The Bottoms, No Stop, Unknown) is negotiating to direct the movie Shazam! spin off. Adam Sztykiel (Rampage) wrote the most recent version of the script.

Johnson and Collet-Serra recently collaborated on the Disney Jungle Cruise, scheduled for 2020.

According to Johnson, "Johnson was very impressed by the way Collet-Serra behaved for such an important production and was surprised at the ease with which he was able to easily switch from darker materials to much lighter materials. Once production was complete on Jungle Cruise, the decision to appoint him director of Black Adam was easy to take. "

Dwayne "The Black Adam" Johnson

Johnson has been attached to Black Adam since 2014. In the five years since the official announcement, it has been decided that Shazam! and Black Adam, one of Shazam's most iconic villains, would get two separate movies to do justice to each character.

The filmmakers behind Shazam! recently tackled the question of whether Johnson's Black Adam would appear in a potential Shazam! 2. "You may want to see it at some point, because it's a classic villain," said director David F. Sandberg. Producer Peter Safran nodded, adding: "This is a perfect opponent, so we hope you can see them on the screen together at one point, but it will not be in this one."
