Police at the Black Capitol say they were attacked by “racist terrorists” during the riots – some of whom have repeatedly called them the N word, according to a report.
Two officers described being racially abused – including slurs – during Wednesday’s chaos that left five people dead, including one of their colleagues, BuzzFeed reported.
“I was called [an N-word] 15 times today, ”recalled one of the officers, who is a veteran of the force, screaming after the pro-Trump crowd disperses, the outlet reported.
Another officer, who is a more recent recruit, described being forced into hand-to-hand combat with rioters, some of whom threw Blue Lives Matter flags at them.
“We were telling them to back up and walk away and stop, and they told us that they’re on our side, and they’re doing it for us, and they say it as I’m getting hit in the face of the ‘one of them,’ he said on the exit.
“We were sprayed with pepper in the face by these protesters, I’m not even going to call them protesters, by these national terrorists,” the officer said.
The older cop is said to have said the sophistication of the crowd of Trump supporters has been downplayed.
“It was a group of highly trained terrorist militiamen who attacked us,” he told the outlet.
He said they had radios, two-way communicators and headsets in addition to homemade explosives and homemade bombs.
“These guys had military training. Many of them were ex-military, ”the officer told BuzzFeed.
Once they finally contained the violence, the veteran policeman said a wave of emotion swept over him.
“I sat down with a buddy of mine, another black guy, and tears started to roll down my face,” he told BuzzFeed.
“I said, what the hell is this f – k, man?” Is this America? What the f – k just happened? I’m so sick and tired of this shit.
In the middle of the Rotunda, he started shouting at no one in particular, shouting: “These are racist terrorists.
“I cried for about 15 minutes and just let him out,” he told the outlet.
